It is an old carpet that was partially lifted for pipework of central heating , gripper in half of fittings were broken and lost in the process .
Under the carpet , there are laminates ( click fit , not glued) laid and under the laminates is good underlay . Laminates need removing ( and put outside ) then smoothing the underlay before stretching and fitting the carpet . One side of the room ( lounge) opens to kitchen ,and aluminium holding strip to carpet needs to be fitted to this edge . . Carpet or underlay does not need changing . Half of the grippers (at the most and aluminium holding strip for freeedge is needed

He even helped carry two heavy carpet rolls upstairs without hesitation. Clearly knows his craft inside out — very thorough, precise, and efficient in his approach.
I hadn’t ordered enough underlay, but he cleverly used the offcuts and still made everything fit perfectly. The finish is absolutely flawless.
